During the ODA conference, Dmitry Ushakov of LEDAS told us that Siemens' Synchonous Technology truly solves the problem of how to directly edit 3D models in a history-free geometry yet keep the design intent.
But Siemens is keeping the technology to itself, so the Russian programmers in Novosibirsk came up with the "same" technology on their own. Called Variational Direct Modeling, the
main parts are constraint recognition and constraint solving:
- Recognizes edge-face, vertex-edge, parallel, perpendicular, and many more geometric combinations.
- Allows intelligent object model and parametric modification.
This technology is available as a plugin for popular CAD systems -- and so is no longer unique to Siemens.
