UGS plans to port its NX CAD software and TeamCenter PLM software to the Mac OS X operating system.
"As the first major PLM supplier to offer its software products for Mac OS X, UGS can now give worldwide Mac users access to best-of-breed PLM solutions," enthuses Chuck Grindstaff, UGS exec vp.
The Mac versions will dribble out:
* Today -- limited edition version of NX for PowerPC-based Macs under UGS Early Adopter Program.
* Later this year -- add support for Intel-based Macs.
* 2007 -- Teamcenter Engineering Integration for NX available on Mac OS X.
With their PLM software not being available until next year, maybe they won't be first with PLM for Mac. It surprises me that they didn't port to the Intel Mac first. Who'd'a thunk?
Still, UGS makes quite a statement, supporting 32- and 64-bit, as well as Windows, Mac, and Linux. Any other CAD vendor want to match this company's ability?
Not sure there's a big market for UG on a mac....maybe Teamcenter...since thats used by non cad users as well.
UG on the other hand is expensive and most corps that can afford the cost of UG standarize on the Windows platform. Perhaps there some crossover from designers that use surfacing tools on the Mac....but then why buy UG.

Seems like a lot of resources to put on a product that will have limited adoption and additional sales.
