The urgent phone call came at 8:30am Saturday morning. Katrina's coach was very concerned that we attend the Figure Skating Awards Banquet that evening. "It is very important that she attend!"
Our youngest daughter has been figure skating since kindergarten age. Now she is one month away from graduating from Grade 12. Since this is her last year in figure skating (for now), we as parents figured she would probably receive one major award.
As a family, we are not big into sports. Hiking, traveling, reading, music -- yes. Sports? Well, I do drop-in volley ball Monday nights, and Katrina only showed an interest in figure skating. Neither she nor her siblings nor her parents cared much for phys ed in school. But she was passionate about figure skating.
Thus, we were stunned when she walked up front five times:

- Best Skater Performance Award
- Best Artistic Skater Award, with $500 scholarship.
- Plaque for attaining Gold level in figure skating skills.
- Bouquet of flowers in recognition of making it to the provincial figure skating competition.
- Collection of 4 medals and pins for passing various skating skills throughout the year, including ice dance, skills, and interpretive.

As parents (or at least my wife and I) bring up children can be anemmotial rollercoaster ride of joy and dissapointments.

My sister skated through high school... so I know achieving this kind of success isn't easy... congrats to Katrina and the whole Grabowski family!
