Ed Martin, automotive industry solution marketing manager: "The solution shouldn't become the problem." He's talking about software not becoming so complex as to become unusable.

Earlier, in the lineup for lunch, I was speaking with Adeena Schutzberg, who wonders what kind of future there is for GIS. All that can be developed in computerized mapping has been done.

What's New in Inventor 2009

-- Improved sheet metal design.
-- Enhanced dynamic simulation.
-- Native 64 bit support.
-- Large assembly capacity using assembly substitutes.
-- Native translators for UGS, SolidWorks and Pro/ENGINEER.
-- Self draining pipe runs.

What's New in Revit 2009

-- Revit Architecture 2009: increased sustainable design and energy analysis, new Mental Ray engine for rendering.
-- Revit Structure 2009: steel and reinforced concrete detailing and shop drawings, and formwork drawings
-- Revit MEP 2009: air handlers, commercial condensing units, packaged rooftop units, and high-efficiency water source heat pumps.

"100% of automobile makers around the world use [some form of] Autodesk software." Mr Martin repeats the line we first heard at the Inventor event in Paris. A year ago, we heard Dassault CEO Benard Charles tell Catia users that the head of Ford Motor Co told him that Ford would be using his software 100%. Earlier this morning, a rep from Ford told us how his company uses Autodesk's Alias for automotive design. Who to believe?

Talking about it over lunch, we think that maybe the head of Ford wasn't aware the the meaning of his words that could be interpreted by those n the CAD industry.

Paper vs Computer

Sitting next to me, Kenneth Wong says he's going to use the old fashioned paper and pen -- while I type away on my notebook computer, blogging this event live. He doesn't need to rush back to hotel room to recharge computer batteries -- as I have to.

But when an Autodesk employee mentions a company we haven't heard of before, I find it throgh Google, and declare triumphantly to Kennth, "Does your paper give you this info?"

But Kenneth is cheating, for he also holds a digital voice recorder...
