Adobe Slashes Prices
Late last year, Adobe cut the price of its Flash server software drastically by 90%. Today I learned through their PR firm, ar-edelman, that the price of Acrobat 3D 8 is also cut, but not t-h-a-t much:
Reason? "Adobe does ongoing pricing analysis of its products, and based on recent research believes the new price of Acrobat 3D will help make the product accessible to an even larger set of individuals and organizations in the manufacturing and AEC markets." Okey-dokey.
CAD translation just got cheaper.
Hello Jim-
RE:"eDrawings does not provide B-Rep level CAD translation." Right, but SolidWorks does, along with many other CAD systems.
I don't understand, who is supposed to use this product? If you have a CAD application, you don't need it. If you're not using CAD, you certainly won't be translating CAD models.
At $695.00, one can almost purchase a low end CAD system that will create and translate CAD models and provide a Viewer too.

True, there is a little overlap between eDrawings and Acrobat 3D, but more to Ralph's point about CAD Translation, eDrawings does not provide B-Rep level CAD translation. I posted an entry recently on the different value propositions of Acrobat 3D and other view and markup tools here:

Even $695.00 is way too much. I'm a full time SolidWorks User. SolidWorks eDrawings does the same thing; my clients can download it for free. When I discussed this Adobe 3D application with my clients they all rolled their eyes when the price was mentioned. I'm guessing this Adobe application answered a question that nobody asked.
