Dassasult's presentation slides [.zip] contain a note I found interesting:
Performance demonstrates potential for both CATIA & SolidWorks in mid-market
Both Dassault and UGS struggle with the same problem: how to sell their expensive CAD into the bigger market of mid-cost CAD. For UGS, it's trying to sell NX to a market that is meant for Solid Edge; for Dassault, it's wanting to sell CATIA into the SoldWorks market.
Now, it seems, both companies have come up with a the same optimal solution: It's not OR; it's AND!
Getting back to Dassault's claim, here are the hard statistics:
- average selling price: US$16,775
- sales: up 2% over a year ago.
- average selling price: $4,739
- sales: up 15%
Good news for customers: the average selling price for both fell 5-8% from a year ago. (Dassault is the only CAD company to report average selling price.)
