AutoCAD Now 4M+
Autodesk reports that the installed base of AutoCAD has breeched four million: 4,056,200 to be exact, as of the end of October.

Ahh...but bootlegs don't make you any money. Not directly....
Autocad versus SolidWorks, judging by the number of available jobs on careerbuilder.com....It looks like there are around 6x-7x the number of Autocad jobs than SolidWorks. Since SolidWorks claims to have around 300,000 commercial seats...I'd guess around 1.8 million Autocad in use for Mechanical work. I did subtract the "Construction" type jobs and use the "Design" jobs as a reference.
Cadtalent.com seemed to produce the same results.

Yes, that's the number sold since serial #1, and would include those no longer used. One financial analyst figured that a true-er number might be around 800,000: those that still use AutoCAD enough to be considered upgradable.
And then, as Carol Bartz would say, you need to multiply by 3x or 10x to account for bootleg copies.

Wonder if that's how many are actually in use, or how many seats have been sold since its inception? Most cad companies are only tallying total seat ever sold so losses to the competition are hard to figure.
What would be more interesting is how many subscriptions each cad product has.
Still, no doubt that Autocad is a force to be reckoned with.
