PLM [product lifecyle management] is not a topic you'd probably expect to hear about from the IntelliCAD folks, but it was the keynote speaker's topic. I am writing from hearsay, because I was still on the road, crossing the Coquihalla Mountains in my rented car as Keith Mountain, ceo of Spatial Technology, was giving the keynote address.
The topic was "True Development Freedom: The Advantages of Component Software Solutions." (I heard comments over dinner, so I may have not caught all the gist.)
PLM is here to stay, even if it changes it name over time. He encouraged ITC members to look for niches that large companies -- Dassault, UGS, and others -- are missing. This is possible using component software, some of which his company licenses.
Over lunch, it was interesting to listen in as Mountain (who looks a craigy as his name) and the COO of a CAD vendor debated Spatial's pricing. Well, it was more of the COO [chief operating officer] wanting a differing pricing for his company, and the Mountain explaining why Spatial prices the way it does.
This annual ITC event is turning into a mini-COFES -- with the added advantage of being held in a different country every year.
