Counting Alibre Downloads

Alibre.com says it has registered 198,123 users of its free Xpress MCAD software. The company used to require registration, but now makes it optional. That means there are many more downloads of the software than 198,000+.

I surveyed download sites to what numbers they're reporting:

CNET - 96,236
ZDnet - 11,188
FreewareFiles.com - 1,323
3dlinks.com - 520
FreeCADApps.com - 215
ZDnet India - 26
ZDnet UK - 9
ZDnet Asia - 8
builderau.com - 8
invision-graphics.com - 1
MyZips.com - 0
ZDnet AU - 0
TuCows - no count availabe

So, there's 109,534. Add to that the 100,000+ from their initial push with the X-CAD site, and that's make for over 200,000 potential upgrade customers.

Clarification

When you download Xpress from the Alibre Web site, you still need to first register. If you download from others sites, such as CNET, you don't. During installation, you can use ZoneAlarm to block Xpress from accessing the Internet.

Comments

Registration is not optional as far as I can see, maybe there is a regional restriction?
