PTC Targets UGS

PTC has announced a PLM alliance with IBM. There is some question (1) whether this will work smoothly and (2) how this affects IBM's relationship with Dassault Systemes. That's of mild interest; of greater interest is who IBM/PTC plan to target.

In its quarterly conference call with financial analysts, PTC says it won't target Dassault accounts. Instead, IBM and PTC have identified UGS accounts they plan to attack. This means that if your firm runs NX or Solid Edge or other UGS software, expect a visit from IBM/PTC salesmen.

IBM will do anything or work with anyone to make money. How can they support both PTC and Dassault when they got rid of most of the PLM engineers after Dassault scaled back their involvement with PLM.

I personally don’t think that pro-e is any good. I have used UGs Nx software and believe it is superior to pro-e. Both systems are trying to convert to a standard modeling architecture that SolidWorks has base their software upon. SolidWorks has developed their software based on windows. Pro-E and Gus are emulating windows functionality. Do your own research. I have used all three. Solidworks is my choice of tools.
