Dassault Systemes says its V5R16 software (CATIA, etc) has been ported to run on 64-bit CPUs, specifically the Opteron from AMD. Even more specifically, HP's xw9300 workstations and IBM's Intellistation A Pro 6217 workstations.
I'm always keen to learn the benefits of switching to 64 bits. Dassault lists these relatively detail-free benefits:
- increased maximum product model size.
- high levels of possible product model detail and application performance.
- and [koff, koff] access to AMD's innovative processor technologies.
That last item is meant to be a slap in the face of Intel. The required operating systems were not mentioned.
